I originally trained as an installation and performance artist in Dublin NCAD. When I graduated I worked for many years in community arts development and counselling in Ireland and the UK before training as an art psychotherapist in the Centre for Psychotherapeutic Studies, Sheffield University.
Having qualified in 1998 I returned to Ireland where my clinical experience includes working within adult
psychiatry and child and adolescent mental health. I also worked as an art therapist within the Irish education
system for 10 years. In 2008 I gained a qualification in creative supervision, a course approved by PSI and taught over 100 hours by Eileen Prendiville, Dr. Sue Jennings and Robin Shohet at the Children's Therapy Centre, Athlone.
I have a private practice in Kildare town where I see private clients and supervise therapists working in a range of clinical settings. I have worked as a senior Art Psychotherapist within an Adult Psychiatric hospital and on an Adolescent In-patient Unit.
I have also worked as a clinical supervisor to students on the MA in Dramatherapy at NUI Maynooth from 2006 till 2012 and in 2010/11 I was a core member of the teaching staff on the Crawford MA in Art therapy course in Cork. I continue to work as an occasional lecturer on the Masters course. I ran the Principles of Art Therapy Foundation Course in Dublin for the first 5 years, having liaised with Crawford College of Art and Design, CIT and the Director of the Children's Therapy Centre, Athlone to get the course up and running. The course continues to run successfully, now in it's 7th year.
I am an accredited member of IACAT (the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists), having stood on Council as secretary for 3 years and been the creator and editor of their professional journal, JIACAT for over 10 issues, (now renamed Polyphony). I am an accredited member of IAHIP (the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy) and ICP (the Irish Council of Psychotherapy). I am also an accredited clinical supervisor with IAHIP and am also eligible to provide clinical supervision to members of IACP.
